Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is the most common type of Sleep Apnea among truck drivers. This serious disorder can cause drivers to have high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases, memory problems, weight gain and headaches. But the potentially dangerous and most common symptom of untreated Sleep Apnea in truckers is Excessive Daytime Sleepiness. This sleepiness can, in more severe cases, eventually even result in ‘Micro-Sleeps’; where the body actually shuts down to rest for a couple of seconds while the person seems to be fully awake.
